Edo NAWOJ Felicitates New NUJ National Leadership
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Edo State Chapter, ably led by Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan felicitates Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi, newly elected President, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and his executive team.
A mentor and worthy member of Edo NAWOJ, we members of Edo NAWOJ specially celebrate the momentous election of Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as the first female Deputy National President of the NUJ. You are a pacesetter, you lead the way for others to follow. You have shattered the glass ceiling which inhibits women from aspiring and attaining higher elective positions in the union. You have appended your signature to the annals of history. Weldone for being that face aspiring female journalists point at for redefining the role of women leadership in the NUJ and media unionism in Nigeria.
Aside giving kudos to the electoral team that worked assiduously to ensure a smooth electoral process that prioritized the keen contest and emergence of winners for sought electoral office during the “Triennial Delegates Conference” which kicked off November 27, 2024, in Owerri, it is commendable witnessing the emergence of a democratically elected woman into a epoch decision making position in the history of the NUJ. This is a breath of fresh air. A step in the right direction. A step towards real inclusiveness and gender balance in decision making in the media space.
Our hope in a better Nigeria is inalienable. Our belief in a united NUJ is incontrovertible. Indeed, a new NUJ has risen. Our sincere prayer therefore is to see the union flourish under your leadership in all spheres and decision making which would give direction and put smiles on the faces of media practitioners based on enhanced wages, exposure to media trainings, provision of hazard allowances and putting things in place that unify and dignify members of the union at national and state council levels.
As we know, the journey of a thousand miles start with a step. Step forth and claim the media terrain.
