Adesuwa Ehimuan said gender issues lie at the heart of the Association, NAWOJ noting that the association seeks to protect and improve the chances of Nigerian women in politics, governance, education, health, social and economic well-being.

She added that members of NAWOJ Edo State are concerned about protecting the welfare and interests of women, children and People Living with Disabilities (PWDs).

The NAWOJ Chairperson commended Hon. Iyamu who double as Chairman, House Committee on Works and Public Utilities, stating that his performance at the house standing committee has been tremendously outstanding.

According to Ehimuan, “We are indeed proud of you, for your laudable initiative on empowerment of the good people of Orhionmwon Local Government Area and Edo State.

The Back to school project where over 5,000 pupils benefitted free exercise book and stationeries distributed in different schools at Orhionmwon, distribution of POS machines to over 500 indigenes of Orhionmwon to enable their businesses thrive, free JAMB registration for indigent students in Orhionmwon and Edo state at large and Ramadan food stuff support to the Muslim community in Ugo, Orhionmwon LGA.”

All these are laudable, and we hope you continue to do more for the good people of Orhionmwon and Edo state at large. ”

Hon. Iyamu appreciated the women journalists for their commendation and said it would spur him to do more for the good people of Orhionmwon South constituency, LGA and Edo State .

According to the lawmaker, ” Women Inclusion in politics for me, I will say that the ball is now in your court, no longer in our court anymore, you have to choose what you will do, it’s not like those days when they will say a woman does not have rights to be in any position, but today its 50-50.

“Presently the rules and beliefs are changing gradually so with that, I believe in the next 5 to 10 years, the narrative will change drastically, maybe then we would have a Female Governor or Deputy Governor in Edo State.

Women who are already in active politics should put in their best and be of good behavior, so they do not block the way of other women to come into politics. As time goes on more women will be recognized in the state and national politics.

His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki has done a lot by bringing women and youth into politics. So it is for us the youth and women to be in our best behavior and conduct”.

High point of the visit was the presentation of a picture frame to Hon. Iyamu.
