The Chairman of the Edo State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Barrister Mrs. Onomen Briggs, has assured teachers of the government’s commitment to their welfare and professional development. She gave this assurance during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) to her office in Benin City.

During the meeting, the NUT executives raised key concerns affecting teachers in the state. These included delays in promotions and benefits, shortage of teaching staff, inadequate school infrastructure, and the need for improved training programs. They also urged the government to ensure the timely payment of pensions and gratuities for retired teachers.

In response, Barr. Briggs reaffirmed that Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration is prioritizing these issues and working towards sustainable solutions. She emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance teachers’ capacity, ensure prompt salary payments, and provide essential teaching aids to improve learning conditions.

The meeting reinforced the strong partnership between Edo SUBEB and the NUT, paving the way for continued collaboration to improve teachers’ welfare and strengthen the education sector in the state.
