In a bid to upgrade the agriculture sector, empower women, and promote youth entrepreneurship, the Edo State Government has partnered with Amo Farms and Heifer International to support small-scale farmers in Edo State, enabling them to achieve sustainable living income.
The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebolo Anani, made this statement during the commissioning of the project at Obayantor Community, Edo State. She noted that this initiative is a testament to the Government’s commitment to empowering its people, particularly women and youths, to become drivers of economic growth and development.
“As we gather here today, I am reminded of the boundless opportunities that lie within each and every one of us. The support package we have put together is more than just resources; it represents a beacon of hope and a vote of confidence in the ability of our entrepreneurs. We are committed to supporting them every step of the way.”
Mrs. Anani commended the partners for their support and collaboration, noting that their commitment and vision of empowering Edolites is a testament to the power of partnership and collaboration.
“Let us build an ecosystem to support innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth. Let us rise to the challenges of building a better future for ourselves, our state, and our nation. Let us support our entrepreneurs and work together to create a brighter future and a brighter tomorrow.”
Country Director of Heifer Nigeria, Dr. Lekan Tobe, stated that Heifer focuses on women and youth. “The work we do is based on 12 cornerstone mind-shifting concepts that we introduce to them. These concepts inspire and motivate effectively. Without people shifting their minds, it is impossible to empower them.”
Alaba Yunusa, representing Amo Farms, said their major aim is to empower and support women to sell their birds. “We plead with the Edo State Government to assist us in getting regular power to enable us to commence production.”
The Programme Coordinator of Heifer Nigeria, Onyekachi Ayevbuomwan, stated that their mission is to end poverty. “A sustainable lead approach community, women, will benefit because if you empower a , you empower a nation. Our women our holistic support.”
The high point of the commissioning was the presentation of solar-powered freezers that are climate-friendly to beneficiaries and a tour of the facility. Some of the beneficiaries, Ambassador Mrs. Otaigbe Patricia and Egharevba Stella, were elated and appreciated the Edo State Government and Amo Farms, Heifer International for the empowerment starter pack of solar-powered freezers that are climate-friendly.
