INEC BEGINS DISTRIBUTION OF NON SENSITIVE MATERIALS AHEAD OF EDO ELECTION

The independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says the Commission is fully prepared for the Conduct of Edo state governorship election scheduled for September 21st.

Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr Anugbum Onuoha stated this at a Stakeholders Round Table organized by the Center for Transparency Advocacy, held in Benin City.

Represented by the Head of Department, Civil Society and Persons with Disabilities, INEC, Mr Dedekumar Emmanuel, Dr Onuoha said the Commission had started the distribution of non sensitive materials to various Local Government Areas in the State.

Dr Onuoha therefore urged Edo residents to come out en mass on the 21st of September to exercise their franchise as modalities have been put in place for all, including persons with Disabilities to cast their votes.

The INEC residents Commissioner further noted that election would commence by 8.30am and end at 2.30pm,assuring that Adhoc staff are expected to arrive the polling units latest 6.30am.

Mr Onuoha stated that in few days time INEC would commence the distribution of accreditation tags to Journalists and other stakeholders for the election.

He announced that training for Electoral officers would commence on the eighth of this month stressing that the Commission had put in place magnifying glasses for persons with albinism, posters for the deaf among others to make the election inclusive .

In a remark, Edo state Commissioner for police, CP Nemi Edwin- Iwo warned that the police would not condole misbehavior from anyone trying to truncate the smooth conduct of the election.

Represented by the an assistant Commissioner for police ACP Bawa Saleh, the CP cautioned that activities of Vigilantes in whatever guise would not be allowed during the Conduct of the election.

Earlier in a message,Convener of the event and executive director, Ms Faith Nwadeshi said the event was organized to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.

Represented by the Program and Communication Manager of CTA, Mr Donald Ekemeize she said the event was also to keep stakeholders informed on the preparedness of the commission.
