International Women’s Day: Hon. Bright Iyamu urges investment on girls, women

The hon. member representing Orhionmwon South Constituency, Edo House of Assembly, Hon Bright Iyamu has urged Nigerians to invest in women and girls as a critical step towards achieving a more just and equitable society.
The 2024 International Women’s Day (IWD) marked by the United Nations (UN) and other development organisations across the globe has the theme, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.’
The hon member said “This year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress,’ is a powerful message to all stakeholders to investing in women and girls in all sector of the economy and sphere of life because it is also essential for our collective progress, when you invest in a woman, you have invested in a nation. Whatever you give to a woman she mutiplies”.
Iyamu highlighted the numerous challenges faced by women in Nigeria amongst are gender-based violence, economy inequality and high cost of living.
He said “As we celebrate International Women’s Day, I commend Nigerian women for their resilience who are forced to make tough decisions every day over the rising cost of living. It takes fortitude to keep things running smoothly.
“It is worth noting that the family unit remains one of the strongest forces of socialization. Women have stood as vanguards of hope and positive change.” Happy International Women’s Day, he add.
