Middle-aged man shot dead at night club in Edo
2 min readA yet-to-be-identified middle-aged man was reportedly shot dead by gunmen at a popular night club in Benin, capital of Edo State.
The incident occurred at about 2 am on Friday, at Raptor Club and Lounge, located along Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Road, off Ekenhuan Road.
Eyewitnesses disclosed that the deceased’s girl friend sustained gunshot injuries on her laps.
The victim was said to be planning to move into his newly-built house later this month, allegedly had a disagreement with another patron of the club.
A source who asked not to be named, explained that the disagreement led to an altercation, and the deceased allegedly emptied his glass of drink on the fellow, but later felt remorseful and apologized.
The source added that after the apology, the other patron who appeared to have accepted the apology, left the club house,
But moments later when the deceased entered his white-colored Lexus SUV, gunmen who apparently laid a bush for him shot him inside the vehicle.
The source added that the corpse of the deceased was evacuated and deposited at an unnamed mortuary, while his girl friend was rushed to an undisclosed hospital for treatment.
However, no one could ascertain the real reason behind the attack on the victim.
A visit to the scene of the incident showed shattered glass door and other properties destroyed during the incident.
Operatives of the State Police Command also were sighted at the scene of the incident, while the deceased’s vehicle was seen being towed away.
Reacting to the incident, the Command’s Spokeman, SP Moses Joel Yamu, said the police received a distress call on the incident around 3 am.
He added that on reaching the scene, operatives went after the gunmen, but they escaped and abandoned a pump action gun and two expended empty shell.
Yamu disclosed that the two victims of the gunshots were evacuated to the hospital for medical attention and investigation is ongoing to arrest the perpetrators.
