New Electricity Tariff: Business Owners Association Takes BEDC To Court

The Federal High Court sitting in Benin City has adjourned to July 24, 2024 for further hearing on a case between Business Owners Association, Edo/Delta and Benin Electricity Distribution Company, (BEDC) on the recent increase of electricity tariff.
In the Suit No. FHC/B/CS/43/2024, before Hon. Justice B. O. Quadri said the adjournment was to enable the defendant, BEDC, to file their reply on why it will not be restricted completely from executing the new introduced tariff increase.
Business Owners Association, Edo/Delta has approached the Federal High Court in Benin City, seeking that the BEDC be restrained from implementing the new tariff being proposed by the company.
The distribution company is expected to file their reply within the period of adjournment.
Reacting to the order of the Court, the Chairman of the Business Owners Association Edo/Delta, Mr. Egbe Omoregie appealed to all Nigerians both old and young to join hand in ensuring that the tariff don’t stand.
According to him, the effects that the tariff will create in the society will be so enormous that the people will not be able to bear it.
“We ask everyone to join in any way to ensure that the BEDC did not succeed in their evil plan to reap the people off”, he stated.
Also speaking, the proprietor of BIBI Hotels, Hon. Sunny Iziuwa decried the exorbitant increase and hardship that the new tariff will create in the society.
He said the tariff will make the poor, poorer, and at the same time deprived business owners from meeting up to their projections of improving their business.
