On Monday, the gale of endorsement continued when Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, endorsed the candidature of Alhasssan Yahya and Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde as President and Deputy National President respectively ahead of the union’s Triennial Delegates’ Conference scheduled for Owerri, Imo State.
Moving the motion for endorsement, Mr Olamide Adeyeye of state Information Chapel and seconded by comrade Dupe Fehintola of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS.
He reiterated his resolve to ensure that journalists across the country are registered under the National Health Insurance Scheme to for enhanced healthcare services for journalists.
The NUJ presidential hopeful also assured that he would reinvigorate the Nigeria Institute of Journalism NIJ) to meet up with international standard adding that prompt release of certificates for graduates of the institution would receive prompt attention.
He said Nigeria that journalists would witness unprecedented development and good welfare package, especially in the area of training and retraining for optimal performance in the discharge of their duties.
The General Manager, Bronze FM and the incoming National Deputy President, Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde said that, as a former secretary of Lagos State Council of the union and having served three presidents of the union, he has garnered enough experience to fit into the office and promise to give maximum support to the incoming president.
She also assured that the women constituency, Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ would be adequately carried along in the scheme of things.
Dr. Oyetunde said that the union would ensure that everybody is giving a sense of belonging and give them the needed support to excel in their chosen profession.
