Set up IDP Camp for Vulnerable Persons in Okuama Community -NAWOJ South South to Delta Gov.

Members of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, South South Zone have called on the Delta state government to set up Internally Displaced Persons IDP Camp to cater for the vulnerable persons from Okuoma community, Bomadi Local government area, following the tension arising from the killing of soldiers on peace mission.

 

This is contained in a statement signed by the Zonal Vice Chairperson, Comrade Stella Macaulay and the Zonal Secretary, Comrade Eunice Emeyazia.

 

The Women Journalists commiserated with the families of the gallant troops of 181 Amphibious Batallion, Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State who were killed while on peace mission to OKUOMA community on Thursday, 14 March, 2024.

 

The statement described the incident as unfortunate, especially as the Commanding officer, two Majors, one Captain and 12 Soldiers said to be killed on that day, were reportedly responding to a distress call regarding the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.

 

The Association called on the state government to as a matter of urgency investigate and bring to book all those involved in the heinous crime.

 

The South South NAWOJ leaders said as women, the Association shared in the pains of the families of the deceased, as the fallen soldiers were the people’s husbands, fathers,brothers, sons, friends and breadwinners.

 

They encouraged military personnel to remain focused and undeterred in its mandate of maintaining peace and security in the country, saying that many citizens appreciated their sacrifices for the country.

 

The Association prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased soldiers.
