Glitz and glamor engulfed the 45th session of the Cairo International Film Festival. Thousands of tourists from all over the world arrived in Cairo, Egypt to be part of the historic film festival which was first witnessed in 1976.
After a visit to the Berlin Film Festival, late writer and critic Kamal El Mallakh and a group of like-minded cinema critics, made it a priority that such world-class festivals should start premiering in Egypt.
Thus the first edition was held in 1976. The film festival featured around 100 films from 33 countries.
The essence of the Film Festival was to serve as a bridge between cultures, and unite people from different parts of the world, to promote their cultural heritage and tradition.
The Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) is one of the only 15 Festivals accorded a category “A” status by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF). It is the oldest and only internationally accredited annually running film festival in the Arab World, Africa and the Middle East.
The Film Festival has improved tremendously over the years and continues to act as a meeting point not only for filmmakers and critics but also for writers, intellectuals and other artists all over the Globe.
The Egyptian Opera House is witnessing the 45th session of the Cairo International Film Festivals, which has been ongoing from November 13th and will conclude on November 22nd, 2024.
The festival’s officials revealed that 194 films from 72 countries will be screened. The events include 16 red carpet screenings, 37 world premieres, 8 international premieres, and 119 screenings for the Middle East and Africa region.
The CIFF is an annual international film festival organized by the Ministry of Culture in Egypt. It is accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF) and is committed to comply with all its conditions and regulations.
