The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has emphasized that women are the pillars of a healthy nation, as society is built on the foundation of family, which drives meaningful national development.
Mrs. Anani made this statement during a courtesy visit by the management team of Edo Specialist Hospital to her office at Government House, Benin City.
Receiving the delegation led by the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Anthonia Ojoku, Mrs. Anani commended medical professionals for their dedication and service. She expressed her willingness to support the hospital’s advocacy initiatives, particularly in addressing women’s health concerns. She noted that due to their busy schedules managing the home, many women often neglect their own health.
The Coordinator also indicated her interest in collaborating with the Urology Department to encourage women and children facing related health challenges to seek regular check-ups and screenings.
In addition, Mrs. Anani advocated for a special healthcare program for the elderly, noting that many are ill and lack access to quality healthcare services. She stressed the need for outreach initiatives to support them, as they had spent their years caring for their children, and it was now time for the younger generation to care for them.
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to healthcare, Mrs. Anani assured that a new era had begun in Edo State under the leadership of Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo. She affirmed that the government would provide the necessary support to strengthen the health sector, including Edo Specialist Hospital.
In her remarks, Dr. Anthonia Ojoku described Edo Specialist Hospital as the flagship medical institution in the state, strategically located in the city center. She emphasized that women play a crucial role in maintaining family health and commended Mrs. Anani’s generosity, particularly her engagement with children during Christmas celebrations, where she distributed gifts.
Dr. Ojoku also lauded Mrs. Anani’s significant support during World Cancer Day, an initiative that provided cervical cancer screenings and medical advice to over 500 women.
Furthermore, she celebrated Governor Monday Okpebholo’s numerous achievements in his first 100 days in office, acknowledging his strong support for the healthcare sector. She reaffirmed the hospital’s commitment to seeking government collaboration for health programs aimed at improving the well-being of Edo State residents.
“No woman, no nation,” Dr. Ojoku stated, pledging continued engagement with the government to drive impactful healthcare initiatives across the state.
