Yuletide: Anambra Police Command commences joint operations with Delta Command, FRSC
2 min readIn anticipation of traffic congestion during and after the yuletide season, especially at the First and Second Niger Bridge, the Anambra State Police Command has commenced joint operations with the State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Delta State Police Command.
According to statement by the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, on Wednesday, the proactive move was embedded in the operational plan of the State Commissioner Of Police, Nnaghe Obono Itam, after a security assessment.
He said the effort was in to ensure that every sundry issue is addressed.
The CP who visited the two bridges with the Sector Commander of FRSC, Joyce Alexander, also alerted the Delta State Commissioner of Police on the need for cooperation and intensification of surveillance patrols to nip in the bud all criminal tendencies and activities on the road and to ensure free-flow of traffic in the area during and after the festive season.
“The CP further affirmed that the Anambra State Police Command shall continue to explore strategies to ensure the safety of the travelling public and remains committed to consolidating on the gains already recorded in crime prevention, restoration of Law and Order and improving on the safety and security of lives in the State,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps and Nigeria Police Force have agreed that checkpoints will be suspended at the Onitsha end of the Niger Bridge to ensure free flow of traffic during the Yuletide.
According to the FRSC Sector Commander, Joyce Alexander, the move was to ensure free flow of traffic during the Yuletide.
She disclosed that some proactive steps had been initiated by the Corps to address potential traffic challenges during the festivities.
