World Hypertension Day: Edo First Lady’s Office Calls for Regular Check-Up

The Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, has emphasize the importance of regular medical check-ups to combat hypertension.
She made this assertion, while addressing guests including the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Adams Oshiomole, in Government House, Benin City.
She said Hypertension affects a significant portion of the global population, including Nigeria, adding that many individuals are unaware of their hypertension status, highlighting the need for regular check-ups.
Mrs. Anani called for healthy lifestyles, such as balanced diets and regular exercise, can help prevent hypertension.
The coordinator noted that promoting public awareness about hypertension risks and prevention strategies, encouraging community members to prioritize health and seek medical attention when needed.
She also mentioned that the State Government is committed to promoting health initiatives that benefit the people of Edo State, particularly women and girls who are often disproportionately affected by hypertension.
The Coordinator explained that regular Check-up is pertinent and citizens are encouraged to regularly check their blood pressure and seek medical attention if necessary.
She advised adopting healthy habits, such as reducing salt intake and increasing physical activity, to help prevent hypertension.
Mrs. Anani said the Office of the First Lady’s efforts to raise awareness about hypertension and promote regular medical check-ups are crucial in combating the major health risk.
World Hypertension Day is observed on May 17 annually, aims to raise awareness about hypertension, a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases.
