Democracy Day: Lawmaker urges Nigerians to reflect on values of Democracy

Hon. Bright Iyamu, member representing Orhiomwon South Constituency in the Edo State House of Assembly, has tasks Nigerians to reflect on the journey of great nations towards democratic values which has to do with freedom, good governance, rule of law and respect for human rights.
According to the lawmaker, the day reminds Nigerians that democracy is an embodiment of freedom, justice and equality.
He stated this in a press statement today on the occasion of the 25th celebration of unbreakable democracy in Benin City, Edo State Capital.
Iyamu said: “As we celebrate Democracy Day today, we reflect journey of our great nation towards democratic governance and the values it embodies, freedom, justice and equality”.
He added: ” This day marks a significant chapter in our history, reminding us of the resilience and determination of Nigerians who fought tirelessly for the democracy we now cherish”.
Hon Iyamu explained that in Orhionmwon, they have seen firsthand the positive impact of democratic principles in the community which was attracted by his quality representation.
He noted that democracy has allowed the people to voice their needs and work towards meeting them collectively.
Hon Iyamu added: ” It is through active participation and engagement that we can continue to drive progress and ensure that every citizen benefits from the fruits of our democratic system”.
He continued: “However, the journey is far from over. As your representative in the Edo State House of Assembly, I remain committed to advocating for policies that will enhance our democratic institutions, promote good governance and improve the quality of life for all”
Iyamu said it is the shared responsibility of all Nigerians to safeguard the principles of democracy and work together towards a more prosperous and equitable future for Orhionmwon and Edo State.
He urged the people of Orhionmwon South and Edo State at large to renew their commitment to the ideals of democracy, appealing to the people to embrace unity, respect diverse opinions and strive for a society where every voice is heard and valued.
