EDO STATE NAWOJ HOLDS SOUTH-SOUTH ZONAL CONFERENCE IN BENIN CITY

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State Chapter on Thursday played host to this year’s South-South Zonal Conference in Benin City.
NAWOJ South-South zone comprises the states of Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, and Rivers.
The theme for this year’s is EDO 2024: ELECTIONS AND GOVERNANCE THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA.
As the Edo Governorship Election which is slated for the 21st of September, 2024 draws nearer, journalists in the state have again been charged to display high sense of Professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, Edo State ably led by its chairperson, Comrade Adesuwa Ehimuan speaks on the importance of the conference.
Vice-Chairperson, NAWOJ, South-South zone, Comrade Stella Macaulay emphasize on the need for women journalists in Edo state to be neutral as regards the coverage of the forthcoming Governorship Election in the State.
The Keynote Speaker at the event, Dr Daniel Ekhareafo, Head of Department, Mass Communication, University of Benin, dived into the theme EDO 2024: ELECTIONS AND GOVERNANCE THE ROLE OF THE MEDIA.
Dr Ekhareafo also speaks on what journalists should focus on as the public looks forward to the Governorship Election in the state.
The Guest Speaker, Georgina Erifeta Ph.D, Commonwealth Professional Fellow, Director, Benin City, Window on America, Igbinedion University, Okada, highlights some of the problems been faced by women in attaining leadership positions and their solutions.
There were goodwill messages from Edo State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Festus Alenkhe, National Trustee NUJ, Dr Mrs. Abimbola Oyetunde, Representatives of the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Edo State, Dr Anugbum Onuaha, the Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Funsho Adegboye and Political parties.
Highlights of the event were the presentations of certificates to participants, while honorary awards were given to the past Chairperson, NAWOJ Edo State.
